The Museum as Experience

The Pesti Vigadó held the VI. Education Through Art Workshop Conference on 8 June 2026 in its Makovecz hall, attended by more than one hundred participants. This year’s topic was Art as Experience – Museum Pedagogy. The topics discussed during the presentations were the challenges faced by museum education today, the link between education through art and museum education, and the role of museums in personal development, community-building and perspective-shaping.

István Sinkó, dr. Tamás Vásárhelyi, Zoltán Prosek, Anna Czékmány, Kinga Koncz, Eszter Marosi, Ildikó Schopp, Katalin Törőcsik, Anna Kasztovszky, István Éliás, Orsolya Nyitrai, Borbála Tamási and Anna Ibolya Váray Kolozsváriné shared their insights on the connection between museums and schools, the STEAM framework, the relationship of curatorial interpretation and visitor experience, the issues related to social accessibility, the educational role of photography and music in museum education, and museum practices encouraging creative work along with other topics. Among the attendees were teachers, museum educators, researchers, artists, industry professionals and those interested in education through art. Recordings of the presentations can be found on the website and YouTube channel of the Research Institute of Art Theory and Methodology at the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
